Over the past decade, NEET and JEE coaching in India has tilted dramatically toward scale โ 500-seat auditoriums, recorded lectures, app-based tests, and franchise centres that rotate teachers every few months. The economics are obvious. The pedagogical cost is less obvious โ until you've taught the same student through their first sleepless night before a mock test, and you understand why being known by name matters.
What "personalised" actually means
Personalised coaching is not just a smaller batch size. It is the structural choice to make every student visible. In a 500-seat hall, the median student is invisible by design. In a 30-seat classroom, the teacher will notice when a normally engaged student starts staring at the desk. That noticing โ and the small course-correction that follows โ is the difference between a child who clears NEET and one who doesn't.
The three things personalisation actually changes
Diagnosis. A good teacher who knows a student can diagnose a learning gap in 30 seconds. The same gap, hidden in a large cohort, can persist for six months and silently sink a NEET attempt.
Accountability. Students are more honest with teachers they have a relationship with. They confess they didn't sleep, they didn't revise, they were distracted by their phone. Those confessions are where real coaching happens.
Calibration. Every student's syllabus pace, weak chapters, test-taking psychology is slightly different. Personalised coaching adjusts to those โ not the other way around.
What it doesn't mean
Personalised does not mean indulgent. We push students hard. It does not mean lowering the bar. The bar is NEET / JEE โ it is set externally. Personalisation is just the way we get each student to that bar without losing them halfway.
Why we chose this model
In 15 years of running Max Classes, the strongest predictor of a student clearing NEET has never been their Class 10 marks or family background. It has been the strength of their relationship with at least one teacher in the institute. That is not a marketing line โ it is a data observation across hundreds of students.
So we kept the model small. Small batches. Same faculty all year. Direct access to the director. It costs more per student and takes more out of the team โ and it is the reason the wall of Max Classes doctors keeps growing.
